What is the difference between Electrolytic Tinplate (ETP) and TFS?

Oct 20, 2024

The main difference between ETP and TFS lies in their uses and characteristics. ETP is mainly used to manufacture food cans and beverage cans, while TFS is mainly used to manufacture deep-processed cans and electronic product housings. The coating structure of ETP includes steel base, tin layer, tin oxide layer and oil film, while the coating structure of TFS includes steel base, metal chromium layer, chromium oxide layer and oil film. The characteristics of ETP include excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and excellent processability, while the characteristics of TFS include excellent heat resistance, good paint adhesion and excellent anti-sulfurization.

The coating structure of ETP consists of four layers: steel base, tin layer, tin oxide layer and oil film. The steel base provides strength and formability, the tin layer provides corrosion resistance and lubricity, the tin oxide layer improves chemical stability, and the oil film further enhances lubricity. The coating structure of TFS also includes steel base, but the main coating is metal chromium, the chromium oxide layer provides high chemical stability and corrosion resistance, and the oil film enhances lubricity.

In terms of properties, ETP has excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and excellent processability, and is suitable for the manufacture of food and beverage cans. TFS has excellent heat resistance, good paint adhesion and excellent anti-sulfurization, and is suitable for the manufacture of deep-processed cans and electronic product housings.
